Personality: Jon Antilles is enigmatic and mysterious to most of the Jedi, being such an unusual case. Jon is full of wisdom and more than willing to give a lecture on the history and lessons of the Order. To those who do know him, however, he is far more down to earth than the preachy scholar that most Jedi label him to be. Jon is light-hearted and more than willing to make a joke when the time calls for it.
Jon is dedicated to preserving the balance of the Force, preferring to do so through the Light Side of the Force, as the other side of the spectrum, in his experience, is wholly reserved for greed and self-interest. As such, he believes that the authentication of the Sith and the Dark Side is not only contradictory to the teachings of the Jedi, but counterproductive to the interest of balance as well. As such, he played a substantial role in the formation of the Resistance, providing insight into the justifications for the Resistance's philosophies and organization.
Jon believes that the Sith and Jedi, because of their history, are not compatible as a single organization, because there are policies in both specifically designed to contradict or spite the policies and beliefs of the other, like the use of double-bladed lightsabers being frowned upon by the Jedi, and the existence of the Sith Code as a counter to the Jedi Code. Because these organizations have such an antagonistic history and view of the other, Jon believes that one or both must be disbanded, and the philosophies re-evaluated for such a union to exist.
History: Jon Antilles was born to a Corellian historian, and identified as a Force Sensitive only a few months after his birth. His father, however, refused to give him to the Jedi, wanting a heir to his legacy. In Jaden Antilles's last few weeks as he lay in his bed, dying from an obscure, incurable disease, however, he regretted his decision, and donated all of his findings, estate, and son to the Jal Shey, how he believed to be the scholarly counterparts to the Jedi, worthy to raise his to-be orphaned son.
Jon was a dedicated and attentive student, loving the life presented to him, and taking to the academic study of the Force like a fish to water, but he felt that it wasn't enough. The Jal Shey had their place and methods in history, but they did not explore the Force intimately enough. Jon didn't want to just study and practice the Force, he wanted to understand it, be intimately connected with the Force. to do so, he would have to explore as many venues of the Force as he could-both light and dark.
When he asked the Mentors for the resources and permission to explore the Force in new ways, he was rejected and the concerns of his corruption moved them to expel Jon from the Jal Shey. This created the resentment that would become the basis for Jon's actual corruption later in life, for Jon had not fallen as far as they had labeled him.
Jon was then approached by a Mentor that had once been in a similar position as he-alone, curious, and expelled. This master had explored the galaxy and referred to himself as the 'Agent of Light.' He had a name, but Jon never used it. The Agent offered to teach Jon the Light side of the Force, and why it was the truth, the only truth, of the Force. Jon became the Agent's neophyte for many years, until the Agent released him from his tutelage.
Jon felt that his studies of the Light were completed, at least for now, and asked his Mentor to direct him to his counterpart, the aptly name Agent of Dark, but the wise Mentor refused, urging Jon to continue to study the Light and forget his old go of his desire to explore the Dark Side. Jon, however, refused, and struck down his master, in his first step towards the Dark Side of the Force.
Jon sought out the Dark Agent, locating him in a shack on Mos Eisley. Jon asked the Dark Agent to train him, and for two months, Jon studied under this evil man, but Jon was disappointed with what he was taught. The Dark Agent was petty, greedy, cowardly, and lazy, unwilling to actually go through with any of his plans. Though Jon's skill with the lightsaber improved greatly in this time, he learned little that he didn't already know, and so he slew the pitiful wretch that he had heard such terrible stories of, and took his place, naming himself Orexsus.
Orexsus went on to become a smuggler, working on a ship for the Hutts. When his captain ran afoul of his Hutt employer, Orexsus took the opportunity to overthrow him and paid back the money the crew owed by undermining other smugglers, taking their jobs, sabotaging their ships, until he was a notorious smuggler, pirate, and criminal. But being a simple gangster was not enough. Orexsus built a criminal empire that corrupted the highest echelons of Alliance government, strong-arming Senators and governors, even infiltrating the Sith.
Orexsus's organization was such that he was poised to become a serious threat to the stability of the Alliance, and so they acted, sending Sith strike teams to capture or slay him, which only irritated the situation, as many of the would-be assailants ended up joining Orexsus, seeing him to be more faithful to the teachings of the Sith than the Order itself.
It took a brave duo to finally stop Orexsus's momentum. A young Sith and a freshly-knighted Jedi infiltrated Orexsus's palace on Nar Shadaa and with the Sith's power and the Jedi's wisdom, captured the would-be conqueror. Orexsus was brought to Coruscant, where he was judged. The Sith, having been fragmented by his actions, wanted Orexsus executed (though others wanted him to be put in charge of the Sith,) but the Jedi refused to kill him. Cutting him off from the Force would enrage the Sith that followed him, the Jal Shey refused to take responsibility for him, and exiling him would simply ensure his return to power. So they redeemed him, showing him that his exploration into the Dark Side had corrupted his original search to understand the Force.
Orexsus became Jon again, and returned to the Light. He was never given Master status, but he didn't care. The respect the Sith had for him ended in them referring to him as 'Master' anyway, and the name spread to the Jedi. The Sith that once followed him returned, and the peace was restored.
To the Sith in power, he is a threat. To the Sith that idolized him, he is a disappointment. To the Jedi who do not understand him, he is a time bomb waiting to go off, either setting off the Sith or returning to the Dark. To those who do, he is a respected Master. To students on both sides, he's one that gives hours-long lectures on history and its applications.
